Navigating Bars to Relief for Afghan Clients

As Afghan parolees seek permanent residency, asylum, and Temporary Protected Status in the United States, many face intense questioning and scrutiny by USCIS officers on their involvement in armed conflicts and contact with terrorist organizations. In this session, learn the basics on the persecutor bar to asylum, the terrorism-related inadmissibility grounds, and the inadmissibility ground based on extrajudicial killings. We will also provide practical tips for representing Afghan clients effectively before USCIS, including how to answer questions on the I-485, preparing a client to give a sworn statement to an immigration officer, and how to effectively argue that these bars do not apply to your client.
