It has been one year since the evacuation of our allies in Afghanistan, and evacuees are still struggling to find long-term stability in the United States. CLINIC has published a policy brief, Afghans in America are Still at Risk: The Need for a Pathway to Lawful Permanent Residency. This brief describes why the immigration statuses available to Afghan evacuees are insufficient to provide comprehensive relief to this population, and why a pathway to Lawful Permanent Residency created by Congress is the best solution. The brief also recommends actions that the Biden administration can take to make our existing immigration system work better for Afghan evacuees in the interim.
