Webinar One: All About Removal Orders

July 23 | 2-3:30 p.m. ET | CA MCLE 1.5

This webinar will review both immigration court removal orders and orders of removal issued outside of immigration court, including expedited removal orders, removal orders against certain noncitizens with aggravated felony convictions, judicial orders of removal, and reinstatement of removal orders.  We will discuss the context in which noncitizens receive these removal orders as well as how an advocate can know if a client has a removal order.

 


Webinar Two: Overview of Removal Proceedings in Immigration Court

July 30 | 2-3:30 p.m. ET | CA MCLE 1.5

This webinar will describe the anatomy of a removal proceeding, including when proceedings may be initiated and the different types of immigration court hearings, such as master calendar and individual hearings. We will also discuss responding to immigration court scheduling orders. The presenters will explain how proceedings are initiated, who the players are, and the varying ways proceedings can conclude. Presenters will also review the rights and responsibilities of individuals in removal proceedings and the roles of the immigration judge and the DHS attorney.

 


Webinar Three: Overview of Relief From Removal

Aug. 6 | 2-3:30 p.m. ET | CA MCLE 1.5

This webinar will cover the forms of relief available to noncitizens in removal proceedings such as asylum, withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture, cancellation of removal, and adjustment of status. Presenters will discuss the key issues to screen for to identify possible eligibility for relief as well as exposure to mandatory detention. We will also discuss other options in removal proceedings such as motions for dismissal, termination, and administrative closure.

 


Webinar Four: Current Enforcement Priorities and Seeking Prosecutorial Discretion

Aug. 13 | 2-3:30 p.m. ET | CA MCLE 1.5

In this webinar, presenters will discuss enforcement priorities under the current administration. We will also discuss the guidance on prosecutorial discretion and how to pursue such a request for noncitizens. In addition, participants will learn about the circumstances in which it is advisable to seek prosecutorial discretion for clients.
