In recent weeks, we have learned of an increasing number of public charge denials at consulates abroad based on the implementation of new public charge guidance in the Foreign Affairs Manual, or FAM. This new guidance was issued in January 2018 and diminishes the role of the affidavit of support in public charge determinations.
