This three-week training will review the fundamentals of obtaining U nonimmigrant status for victims of certain crimes, as well as focus in on cutting edge or developing topics related to U visa eligibility and  related benefits for family members.  Advocates who have previous training or experience with U status cases will have an opportunity to learn about new legal developments, consider strategic issues for applicants and family members, and strengthen their ability to prepare successful applications for U status and subsequent adjustment of status.   Topics covered will include qualifying crimes; waivers of inadmissibility; consular processing; advanced issues related to derivative beneficiaries; adjustment of status; the I-929 application for other family members; and the impact of the annual cap on U status approvals.
