This two-day training provides a complete overview of how to start and sustain a nonprofit immigration legal services program. Attendees will receive a copy of CLINIC’s highly regarded Managing an Immigration Program: Steps for Creating & Increasing Legal Capacity manual and over 150 power point slides reflecting important lessons from the manual.  The manual and curriculum that offers detailed information and suggestions for applying for Board of Immigration Appeals agency recognition and staff accreditation, implementing effective case management systems, fundraising and scores of other pertinent topics related to managing an immigration program.

You will learn how to determine which client cases to accept and how to set fees to obtain the best support for their program. There will be detailed discussions of case intake and management strategies, avoiding unauthorized practice of law, and strategies for working with funders and delivering on grant objectives. The training is highly interactive. You will leave with many best practices and ideas to make your program financially stable while delivering high quality immigration legal services. Past participants have used information from this training to build or expand their legal immigration capacity.  The training is suitable for program staff from a wide range of organizations, including faith-based organizations, established immigration programs, ethnic, nationality, and immigrant organizations, domestic violence and sexual assault coalitions and service providers, unions, social service and medical providers, family resource centers, local governments, and educational programs (ESL and Citizenship).

This training is specifically designed for agencies new to this area who are preparing to serve their communities in rural Illinois with the regulatory changes initiated by President Obama recently.  This is a basic training and it is NOT training on immigration law.

The training will be presented by Jack Holmgren, California Legalization Director, CLINIC.
