Social Worker - SOAR

Summary:

To assist with developing an interdisciplinary approach that would integrate social work into the legal services provided to SOAR Legal’s clients and implement best practices to support meaningful access to justice. The mission and goals of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO) as determined by the Board of Directors, and as administered by the President and his/her delegates.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage SOAR Legal’s pro bono mental health network, in coordination with the Director. Recruit psychiatrists, psychologists and LCSWs to provide free psychiatric evaluations to SOAR Legal’s clients, to support asylum applications and extreme hardship determinations.
  • Set regular meetings, provide and coordinate training, and other duties associated with this work.
  • Provide and develop training for SOAR Legal staff in the areas of trauma informed care, self care, secondary trauma and other relevant topics.
  • Provide support to SOAR Legal staff on matters related to social work approaches and interventions, including trauma informed care.
  • Maintain case files and database to ensure confidentiality and compliance with monitoring and documentation standards. Assist attorneys and staff members to identify clients in need of specialized case management.
  • Conduct culturally competent assessments to inform service planning, referrals and advocacy.
  • Develop individual service plans with attention to culture, language and special circumstances. Assist clients with resource navigation.
  • Provide interpretation and translation for SOAR Legal clients, as needed.
  • Put forth a courteous, friendly, helpful attitude with staff and clients;
  • Ability to be self-directed and work as a member of a team;
  • Maintain a high standard of professional communication when communicating with clients and external partner
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work within the mission, vision and ethics of EMO, and maintain an understanding of the services provided by the programs and projects of EMO.
  • EMO requires all staff in this position to be vaccinated for the safety of our clients.
  • Able to communicate fluently in English and either Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Somali, Arabic, Burmese or Ukrainian.
  • Two years of office experience.
  • Experience working with immigrants or refugees.

Knowledge:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, or bachelor’s degree in Social Work with significant relevant experience;
  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.

Benefits:

Salary range starts at $20.64 per hour, with increases available for language and education skills. All regular employees (does not include on-call or temporary) are eligible for vacation, holidays, sick leave, 401(k) retirement plan, employee assistance program and employee trainings. Employees in exempt positions or non-exempt positions that are 20 hours per week or more, also receive medical insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance and life insurance, per eligibility requirements.
