Analyzing Criminal Bars to Naturalization

A criminal impact can have a serious impact on an applicant’s eligibility for naturalization. Not only can a criminal record lead to denial of naturalization, but it can also lead to a referral to removal proceedings. In this panel, we will discuss the importance of screening clients both for eligibility for naturalization as well as for deportability. We will also discuss conditional v. permanent bars to naturalization, how the use of legal marijuana can impact a naturalization application, and how convictions for driving under the influence can impact an individual’s ability to show good moral character.
