The long-awaited centralization of Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) adjudications began Nov. 1, 2016. USCIS is now primarily adjudicating SIJS-based Form I-360 petitions and Form I-485 applications at the National Benefits Center (NBC) in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. This was done in an effort to standardize adjudications across the country.
Although primary adjudications will occur at the NBC, USCIS will forward cases requiring an in person interview to the appropriate local field office for adjudication.
The current filing procedures remain unchanged. In most cases, petitioners should continue to follow USCIS instructions for Forms I-360 and I-485, which require filing with the Chicago Lockbox. However, if the petitioner is in danger of aging out of SIJS eligibility before the forms can be filed with the Chicago Lockbox, they may be filed at a local field office using established expedited processing procedures.
USCIS has established a new email address for inquiries related to SIJS-based petitions and applications pending at the NBC. Applicants and G-28 representatives may contact the NBC at NBCSIJ@USCIS.DHS.GOV.
CLINIC will monitor the implementation of the program and provide updates.
