President Obama’s Framework

The day after the senators released their framework, President Obama spoke on immigration at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.  "I’m here because most Americans agree that it’s time to fix a system that’s been broken for way too long." President Obama said. "I’m here because business leaders, faith leaders, labor leaders, law enforcement, and leaders from both parties are coming together to say now is the time to find a better way to welcome the striving, hopeful immigrants who still see America as the land of opportunity.

Senate “Gang of Eight” Bipartisan Framework

On January 28, 2013, senators from both parties released their framework for what they would like to see in an immigration reform bill.  Senators Schumer (D-NY), McCain (R-AZ), Durbin (D-IL), Graham (R-SC), Menendez (D-NJ), Rubio (R-NY), Bennet (D-CO), and Flake (R-AZ) announced that they understand that the current U.S. immigration system is broken and shared four basic pillars that guide the legislation they are now drafting.

CLINIC Appoints New Executive Director

February 20, 2013 (Washington DC) - The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeanne Atkinson to the position of Executive Director, effective March 18, 2013. 

Ms. Atkinson currently serves as the Director of Catholic Charities’ Immigration Legal Services program for the Archdiocese of Washington.   She has worked for Catholic Charities since 1992, directing their highly active and successful legal services program – which operates out of four locations – in 1997 to 1998 and from 2000 to the present.  Ms. Atkinson also directs Catholic Charities’ Refugee Center.  From 1989 to 1991, she worked as the Legalization Appeals Project Coordinator for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
