  • Jun 23, 2014: Celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month
Jun 23, 2014: This June marks the first annual Immigrant Heritage Month. This nationwide effort focuses on gathering and telling the inspirational stories of how immigrants shaped the history and culture of the United States. Historically, the United States has been known as a land of immigrants; between 1820 and 1930, the U.S. absorbed about 60% of the world’s immigrants. It wasn’t until the Page Act of 1875 that the first attempt to limit the number of immigrants entering the country occurred.

Pentecost is an ancient feast marking the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples:
  • Jun 3, 2014: “A Moment We Cannot Afford to Lose”
Jun 3, 2014: Taking their message to Capitol Hill on May 29th, bishops emboldened Catholics to seek justice for immigrants through support for comprehensive reform.  A mass, offered for the families of those separated by our broken immigration system, was concelebrated by six bishops at St. Peter Church in Washington, D.C.  The prayers of principal celebrant Archbishop Thomas Wenski were clear:  migration is a central narrative of our faith and nation’s history, and ensuring that laws evolve to uphold the dignity of migrants is a moral obligation.
