Dear CLINIC Affiliates,
I could not let this holiday season slip by without expressing how proud and grateful I am for all of your hard work and dedication this year.
This administration has challenged us in nearly every way possible, both emotionally and professionally. From the travel ban and increased enforcement to the rescission of DACA and attacks on TPS, the assaults seemed endless. CLINIC counted on you to rise to the increasingly daunting task of supporting our immigrant brothers and sisters amid this difficult environment, and without fail you were there.
Often, you provided the only option immigrants had for affordable, trustworthy immigration legal services. In some communities, you were an emotional anchor for people who were consumed with fear and anxiety. Your efforts on the ground helped CLINIC and our advocacy partners successfully push back against many of these anti-immigrant actions. Together, we showed that the immigrant community and its supporters are a family first and foremost, and we will come together to protect one another.
As people of faith, stepping up in times of need is simply what we do. However, the strength and unity we showed in our fight against bigotry and for the dignity of all people places us on the right side of justice, the right side of history. CLINIC is committed more than ever to leading efforts to protect our immigrant community. The road ahead looks long, but we will walk it together, filled with hope for a better tomorrow where everyone understands what we know so well—that immigrants strengthen our families, our communities and our country.
In this holiday season when we are particularly attentive to the story of Mary and Joseph as migrants and refugees, I wish you peace and love as you celebrate with your families, however you enjoy the holidays. May you be blessed, refreshed and fortified for the year to come.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
