CLINIC Executive Director Jeanne Atkinson received the Peter M. Cicchino Award for Outstanding Advocacy in the Public Interest, from American University Washington College of Law, in the category of “An Alum Whose Career has spanned 15 years or more.” The award was presented in an April 13 ceremony.

The Cicchino Awards, named after former Washington College of Law Professor Peter M. Cicchino, “recognize and honor those students and alumni whose devotion to, and creative service in the public interest exemplify the highest ideals of American University Washington College of Law.” Atkinson received her JD from the Washington College of Law in 1991.

In her remarks at the awards ceremony, Atkinson highlighted the importance of CLINIC’s work at a time when immigrants have become an extremely vulnerable part of our society, using the example of Maribel Trujillo, the Ohio mother of four who was recently taken by ICE, separated from her family, and deported to Mexico after 15 years living in the United States.
