CLINIC is pleased to announce a new training opportunity. As part of its Defending Vulnerable Populations Project, the training is geared towards partial accredited representatives who want to qualify and apply for full accreditation in order to represent their clients in immigration court.

Prior to attending the in-person training, participants must:

  • View recordings of five webinars on removal proceedings that CLINIC will have available through an e-learning course starting in July
  • Arrange for, as soon as possible, local mentoring on defense from removal and court skills by available attorney(s) and/or full accredited representative(s) with experience in representing non-citizens in immigration court. If this is not readily available, CLINIC will assist with finding you a qualified mentor
  • Observe a master calendar hearing(s) in immigration court and submit reflections in writing
  • Study training materials, including a sample court file, and complete a case assessment exercise in advance of the in-person court skills training

Other initiative requirements:

  • Participating in the three-day in-person court skills training that will be held Oct. 15 - 17 in Detroit, Michigan
  • Upon completion of the in-person court skills training, collect documentation towards your application for full accreditation and work with your CLINIC Field Support Coordinator (FSC) to finalize and submit the application to DOJ’s Office of Legal Access Programs (OLAP)
  • Agree to identify a non-citizen in removal proceedings and accept the person as a client within three months after obtaining full accreditation
