CLINIC Welcomes Attorney General Holder's Reversal

WASHINGTON, DC - The Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. (CLINIC) applauds Attorney General Eric Holder's withdrawal of a decision written by former Attorney General Michael Mukasey which made it far more difficult for immigrants to reopen their immigration cases when they had ineffective assistance of counsel claims. Mukasey's decision, Matter of Compean, 24 I&N Dec. 710 (A.G. 2009), held that immigrants in removal proceedings had no right to counsel under the Fifth and Sixth Amendments.

Immigration Relief for Abused Immigrants

Written by CLINIC and the Immigrant Legal Resource Center under a generous grant from the California Endowment, the manual is a comprehensive guide for legal advocates working with immigrant survivors of domestic abuse and crime. CLINIC Echoes Call for Immigration Reform on Anniversary of Postville Raid

Washington, DC: One year ago, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents raided a meat-packing factory in Postville, IA, and arrested more than 400 undocumented workers. The raid, recorded as the largest worksite action by ICE, left a community shattered as hundreds of families were separated and individual due process rights were abandoned.
