Washington, DC Director of Development
The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), a non-profit legal services organization, has an immediate opening for a Director of Development in Washington, DC. In coordination with the Executive Director, the Director will develop and execute the agency’s strategy for all fundraising activities to include securing individual, corporate and foundation contributions and grants and contracts. S/he will be charged with conceiving and implementing a sound multi-year fundraising program that coordinates with ongoing communications and research development strategies and broadens CLINIC’s base of support from individuals, foundations and corporations. The Director will also have primary responsibility for expanding and diversifying philanthropic revenue to fulfill the agency’s mission and support its program priorities. S/he will support the development and execution of strategic marketing plans that advance CLINIC’s short and long-term goals.
The position is also a member of CLINIC’s senior staff and as such participates in planning and decision making affecting the entire organization and shares responsibility for achieving the agency’s mission through effective and efficient mobilization of its resources.
The Director is required to travel for fundraising events, donor cultivation, board meetings, and conferences.
Experience:
- Five plus years in managing relations with foundations.
- Five plus years in managing marketing for non-profits.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communications (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of current and proven approaches to donor appeals
- Familiarity with funders and supporters of Catholic initiatives
- Familiarity with national and local foundations/grant-making organizations, their proposal requirements, and grant-writing standards
- Ability to analyze and interpret results
- Proven management and planning skills
- Demonstrated ability to build an effective development strategy and program,
- A strong record of securing major gifts
- Experience in marketing and communications approaches and strategies.
Preferred:
- Four-year bachelor’s degree required (Graduate degree preferred);
Major: marketing, business administration, development, or related field. - 5+ years supervisory experience in resource development/fund-raising for non-profits
- 5+ years fundraising experience (major gifts, annual giving, events, grants)
- proven success in major gift solicitation/cultivation technique;
- work history that demonstrates responsible fundraising success in Catholic or social justice environments
- effective self-starter with a high level of integrity
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
Washington, DC Field Support Coordinator
The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), a non-profit legal services organization, has an immediate opening within its Capacity Building Section in Washington, DC for an attorney or accredited representative to provide training, technical assistance, and program support for affiliates and non-affiliate subgrantees expanding or creating immigration legal services in targeted regions of the country.
CLINIC is seeking a person with immigration law representation and immigration program management experience. The position will join an existing team of Field Support Coordinators and Project Coordinators in providing training, technical assistance, and project management to benefit CLINIC’s growing network of over 215 affiliates and non-affiliate subgrantees. CLINIC’s Catholic and non-Catholic affiliates comprise the nation’s largest network of charitable immigration legal programs.
Responsibilities:
- Train nonprofit agencies in all aspects of managing a successful immigration program using classroom, webinar, and e-learning methods;
- Research and disseminate resource materials on capacity building strategies and program design and management models;
- Assess affiliate programs and provide remedial support;
- Facilitate creation of charitable immigration programs and assist programs in pursuit of Board of Immigration Appeals agency recognition;
- Manage projects to expand the capacity and professionalism of funded affiliates and non-affiliate partners;
- Engage and consult with affiliate leadership on planning, preparing, and implementing significant changes in U.S. immigration laws; and
- Create, as assigned, training and technical assistance materials for use by affiliates to plan and implement immigration reforms.
Education/Training:
- College graduate, preferably with a Juris Doctorate.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree; law education or training; law degree preferred;
- Demonstrated commitment to serve the foreign-born in nonprofit organizations;
- 3 years of non-profit program management experience in the field of providing services to the foreign-born or 5 years of direct immigration legal services with project management responsibilities;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with support from a supervisor and a team of peers;
- Demonstrated ability in diplomatic communication, persuasive public speaking and training, and organizational planning and problem solving;
- Ability to travel across the United States; and
- Spanish-language skills in speaking, reading, and writing desired, but not required.

Oakland, CA Training & Legal Support Staff Attorney
The Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), a nonprofit legal services organization, has an immediate opening within its Training and Legal Support division in Oakland, California for an experienced attorney or accredited representative to provide training, technical assistance and program support related to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
This is a one-year full-time position based in Oakland, California and may be extended based on available funding.
Responsibilities
- Work with and support DACA-eligible and other young immigrant communities, as well as the legal services network involved in DACA implementation
- Provide training and technical support to legal services providers who are working on DACA and other youth initiatives
- Develop and disseminate practice advisories on issues related to DACA eligibility and application procedures
- Develop and disseminate application screening and other application support tools for DACA workshops
- Provide case-specific advocacy and identify issues in need of systemic advocacy with DHS
- Provide program support for group application workshops and other case management issues
- Play a lead role in CLINIC's work with young immigrants throughout its various divisions and among its affiliates
Education/Training
- College graduate; licensed attorney or experience as accredited representative for recognized agency
Qualifications
- At least one year of immigration law experience
- Demonstrated commitment to serve the foreign-born in nonprofit organizations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with support from a supervisor and a team of peers
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups, including attorneys, legal workers, and community organizers

CLINIC Internships
The Center for Religious Immigration and Protection
The Center for Religious Immigration and Protection, a section of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), is seeking legal interns to assist its immigration attorneys. We represent Catholic Dioceses and Religious Orders in bringing foreign-born religious workers into the U.S. to work for the Catholic Church. The legal intern will:
- Receive diverse immigration law assignments
- Be a part of a busy non-profit organization, with six attorneys on the Center’s staff
- Engage in case work including:
- applications for nonimmigrant visas at U.S. consulates abroad;
- applications for change of status or extension of status in the U.S.;
- applications for legal permanent residence;
- case management and client contact;
- and legal research opportunities.
- Training on each aspect of immigration law will be provided

CLINIC’s Advocacy Section
Interns will assist attorneys with administrative advocacy efforts to remedy problems faced by low-income immigrants and CLINIC member agencies and assist in our efforts to support state advocates working to combat local anti-immigrant measures. Tasks may include:
- Reviewing government regulations and policy memos
- Drafting comments on federal regulations
- Attending meetings with government agencies, hearings and other events
- Assisting affiliate programs with individual case inquiries
- Researching and analyzing state immigration-related legislation
Applicants must have strong writing and communication skills and excellent attention to detail. These internships are ideal for law students considering a career in public policy or advocacy.
