CLINIC Chairman Sends Condolences to Kennedy Family

CLINIC Chairman Most Reverend Jaime Soto sent condolences to the family of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Bishop Soto expressed gratitude for Sen. Kennedy's support for immigrants and contributions to positive legislation on immigration.

A copy of the letter is below.

To the Family of Senator Edward Kennedy:

On behalf of the staff and affiliates of the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), I wish to convey our deepest sympathies on the passing of Senator Kennedy.

Senator Kennedy remained a true friend and tireless advocate in the cause of justice for immigrants.   He was a resounding clarion voice in every immigration debate, often crafting legislative proposals that were humane and respectful of the rights and dignity of all persons coming to this country.

Senator Kennedy’s pride in his own immigrant heritage undoubtedly influenced his unwavering commitment to offering similar opportunities to other immigrants and refugees that found their way to the shores of the United States. The groundbreaking immigration policies he fostered remain an enduring testament to his vision. He held fast to the conviction that the United States should live up to its ideals as a welcoming nation, enriched by the diversity of its people.

Senator Kennedy will be greatly missed. We accompany all the Senator’s family and friends with our prayers.  May the Lord Jesus embrace Edward Kennedy into the joys of the Kingdom.  May His tender mercies grace your hearts in these days of mourning.

Respectfully,
