Preparation for Immigration Raid Underway

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A national effort is under way to help communities plan more coordinated responses to immigration raids.
The Washington, D.C.-based Catholic Legal Immigration Network, better known as CLINIC, has already held training sessions in Dallas and Raleigh, N.C. And on Wednesday, it began a 2-day training session in Omaha.
Tanisha Bowens with CLINIC says the training will help community leaders and advocates prepare the people they serve for a raid. It's not about thwarting arrest, but understanding details like which identifying documents to have on hand or how legal proceedings unfold.
The training also is aimed at helping community leaders and advocates begin to think about how they'd respond to the humanitarian and legal needs that arise after a raid. Advocates in Omaha also are working with CLINIC to build preparation plans to spell out more definitely how they'd respond after a raid.
