About the training:
This intensive three-and-a-half day training is designed for non-attorney legal workers and new attorneys, employed by non-profit organizations, who want to gain the skills to represent individuals in immigration court proceedings. Participants will observe and critique mock court proceedings, and work in small groups to prepare the components of a court hearing, including case analysis, witness preparation, opening and closing statements, and evidence objections. On the last day, all participants take part in a mock hearing, representing a respondent seeking relief from removal before an immigration judge.
The trainers for this program are CLINIC Training and Support Attorneys Susan Schreiber, Chicago; Jennie Guilfoyle, New York; and Sarah Bronstein, San Francisco; along with several local immigration attorneys and BIA accredited representatives.
The training will take place at the Mercy Retreat Center; persons in need of lodging may reserve a room at the retreat center for an extra fee, as noted above. For persons attending the training as commuters, note that the training includes required evening sessions.
