About the training: This two-day immigration law training course will be presented by Attorneys Mary Holper and Peggy Gleason. Mary Holper is the supervising attorney for Boston College Immigration and Asylum Project. She formerly worked as a detention attorney for Clinic and is a frequent public speaker on crimes and immigration. Peggy Gleason is a practicing attorney with CLINIC and Catholic Charities in Washington, D.C. The course will cover crime-based inadmissibility and deportability, waivers, representation strategies, and practice pointers for representing an immigrant with a conviction or a pending criminal charge. The impact of domestic violence and DUIs, as well as aggravated felonies and crimes of moral turpitude will be explained. Trainers will present an overview of removal proceedings and rights in removal, and relief from removal for clients with crime issues. Trainers will explain possible remedies for ICE misconduct in arrests and searches such as motions to suppress. Trainers will also discuss strategies for responding to ICE raids and criminal charges that may arise from them.
The training is for the staff of community-based organizations with IRS 501(c) (3) status, and attorneys and legal worker staff of private law offices.
Registration fees:
$220 per person for staff of CLINIC affiliates; $660 cap ($50 materials fee per person for more than 3)
$245 per person from other non-profit programs; $735 cap ($50 materials fee per person for more than 3 at same office location)
$375 per person for private attorneys and their staff
Registration fees include a copy of the training manual.
