This intensive one day training will cover the law and procedure of U nonimmigrant status for victims of certain crimes.  The trainers will discuss the eligibility requirements for U status; waivers of the grounds of inadmissibility; strategies for preparing winning applications; and adjustment of status for U nonimmigrants.

This is an interactive training with both individual and group exercises.  The training materials will include sample U status application packets and inadmissibility waivers.

The training is for the staff of Catholic Charities and other community-based organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status, and attorneys and legal worker staff of private law offices. The training is intended for legal workers and lawyers with little or no experience with U status, and for more experienced advocates in need of review or updates.

Trainers

The training will be presented by Jennie Guilfoyle, Staff Attorney, CLINIC, and Debbie Smith, Project Director, Immigration Advocates Network.  Speakers include Gail Pendleton, Co-Director of ASISTA, a partnership funded by the Office of Violence Against Women; and Ellen Kemp, Director of Legal Advocacy Program at the National Immigration Project.

The training is designed for practitioners at all levels.
