Migration Policy and Advocacy in 2013 and Beyond: New Challenges and New Opportunities
On December 3-5, 2012 CLINIC and USCCB’s Migration and Refugee Services office co-sponsored a national conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Nearly 200 pastors, educators, social ministers, peace and justice coordinators, and others attended. The conference offered skills workshops, briefings on federal and local policy approaches to immigration, and how to advance the migration agency of the Church in the new year and beyond. Speakers included experts in a range of topics related to immigrants, migrants, refugees, unaccompanied children, and other vulnerable people on the move. Most Reverend Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Atlanta, provided the keynote address. Bishop John Wester of Salt Lake City, Chair of the USCCB Committee on Communications, participated in a plenary session on communicating the pro-immigrant message. Other speakers included experts from the Archdiocese of Atlanta, CLINIC and MRS affiliates, and other advocacy organizations.
