Highlights from CLINIC's Immigration News Briefing: 3/23-3/27

March 27, 2009

CLINIC compiles a free Immigration News Bulletin of immigration-related news articles of interest to our network on a regular basis. Every Friday, CLINIC will post the three articles most popular with its readers.  Here are this week’s top stories.

  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is planning to distribute $1.2 million to community organizations that help immigrants fill out citizenship application forms. Mirna Torres, director of CLINIC’s Center for Citizenship and Immigrant Communities, applauds USCIS for helping fund the organizations' efforts. (Wendy Thompson, "New US Gov't Program Offers Help Toward Citizenship," Latin American Herald Tribune, 3/25/09)
  • Yesterday, a federal judge struck down a policy that made it difficult for religious workers to obtain green cards. Judge Robert Lasnik has ordered lawyers representing religious organizations and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to try to agree on a new visa policy within 20 days. (Gene Johnson, "US Judge Strikes Down Policy on Religious Visas," Miami Herald, 3/24/09)
