CLINIC and JFI Advocacy Day

Join CLINIC for a day of Congressional advocacy on behalf of the immigrants we serve across the country. Advocacy Day will take place on Tuesday May 21, 2013 as part of CLINIC’s 16th Annual Convening.   We will start the day with a preparatory session which will include how-to advocacy tips and a review of talking points and messaging. Then we will head to the Hill where you will meet with your Senators and Representatives to let them know how important immigration reform is to their constituents. We know from experience that hearing directly from constituents has a powerful effect on the decisions made by our members of Congress. Take advantage of this opportunity to advocate for those who need immigration reform to pass!

Get ready for your day on Capitol Hill!

We open the Convening in CLINIC’s 25th year with a discussion of the values that drive us to serve the immigrant community and of who makes up that community. Did you know that nearly 25% of immigrants eligible for legalization live in California? Did you know that this year marks the 10th anniversary of Strangers No Longer, a Pastoral Letter Concerning Migration from the Catholic Bishops of Mexico and the United States and that the Church has been active in migration policy for much longer than that? Be sure to attend the opening plenary session to learn more. We will round out the discussion with up-to-date information on how USCIS and CLINIC are preparing for legalization and immigration reform.

Moderators: Jeanne M. Atkinson and Charles Wheeler, CLINIC

Speakers: Most Reverend Richard Garcia, Bishop of Monterey and Chair, CLINIC Board of Directors; Donald Kerwin, Executive Director, Center for Migration Studies; Alejandro Mayorkas, Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
